Hand-in

I am now finished 3rd year, which is rather scary. I have one year left until I will be forced out into the real world, its quite sad really. Anyway, my website is now up and running (just about) which has all of my work from this year, however I'm sure about half of it will be coming down straight after assessments, as well as a major redesign of it...plus I think it only works properly on safari for some reason! Now its time to get going with finding a work placement, currently setting up an interview at the moment so hopefully something will come of it. Wee picture of my CV below...

Knack Exhibition

So our little class exhibition has been and gone now, which was held at Tayburn in Edinburgh. My research into the Chaos Theory and Evolution, resulted in a pretty simple screen printed poster, based around the idea of how all of the "nothings" in life can make something happen. The word "nothing" was painstakingly popped out by a hole puncher, and then stuck back on to create the word "something".

A gentle reminder...

This project has been the bane of my life for most of this academic year. I've worked half heartedly on it for last few months, and only now getting round to do something with it. The brief was to design a calendar for 2010, and I wanted to design something which would encourage people to do something with there year. So I have a designed a less conventional calendar, which works as a countdown acting as your conscience to encourage you to do something exciting. The 2010 fades as the year goes on. STILL not finished however ahhh.

Why do i find this so weird?

Oh dear

So I've been back home for the easter holidays for just a few days, and have somehow managed to get myself involved with the local arts festival in August. After just enquiring about an advert appealing for local artists to exhibit work in shop windows, I have somehow managed to get a whole window of like the most expensive building in Peebles, shiiiitt. I was only enquiring! How did this happen, and what the hell am I going to put in this window, deary me, quite exciting all the same though, just a bit daunting. Aghh. Heres a picture of where I'm meant to be putting work, in the window on the ground floor...

Plans for today?...

I decided yes, however all I've done today is read for half an hour, and then got distracted by personal project, where I am now looking at decisions, and affecting what people do. I am considering as a point of research to send a mass text out to my friends telling them to do something like "turn around" - hense the new blog header - and then ask them to text back saying what they were doing before and after as a consequence of turning around. Oh and I've also become rather obsessed with these colours since experimenting with them when designing my cv.

I've began thinking about my personal project again, I've decided to develop my initial thoughts about evolution at the moment, but after a few days of working on it I've become slightly confused by the whole thing. I've been attempting to record every single decision/action that I have made, however I've realised that this is extremely difficult to do. I've noticed that the simplest of things, such as turning round can effect what happens within a day, which in turn effects what happens the next day, the next week, the next month and so on. I find this pretty interesting, but I'm just a little confused where I'm going to go with it...maybe that's a good thing.

Personal Project Thoughts

This week we were given a new brief to work on, which is a personal project. We can pretty much do whatever we like with it, and the finished resolution will be displayed in an exhibition in May. Although I love the thought of being able to do whatever I like with this project, I can't however help but feel slightly overwhelmed by it and a little scared by the thought of having zero direction to begin with. My disastrous attempt at doing a personal project last year, has left me feeling a little nervous about it to be honest, but hopefully I will have learnt from my mistakes and be able to produce a piece of work which I am actually happy with for a change.

My initial thoughts are pretty vague at the moment, but one of my ideas is to look at photography. My photography skills aren't really up to

much, and usually when I take a picture of something, I tend to be some what disappointed with how it looks, and how it looses the quality of what I can just see with my eyes, and wish instead of just showing a photograph I could bring someone to the photo point and show them it there and then. I was also initially thinking about doing something editorial and was thinking about doing something with real life pages, if this is still making sense at all.

I'm also still completely fascinated and obsessed with all things evolution as well however, and would quite like to do something with that, I'm just not sure what... I find the butterfly effect theory really interesting, and how if one little thing had or hadn't happened the world might have been completely different today. I guess I'm really talking about the element of chance and its effects, just don't really have a clue how I would develop this, shall wait and see.

Touch Viral

Short stop motion animation I made in response to a brief set by the Touch Agency, who wanted us to come up with ideas for a viral advert for them. Based on the idea of pushing paper's limits to reflect their paper based work.

RE

Our biggest brief this term has been to come up with an identity for a new typographic gallery/museum. My gallery identity was based on the idea of redeveloping type over the years, and I also wanted to redevelop a block of flats as my building. So I came up with the name, RE Gallery. I wanted to give my building a new face to it, and wanted the name to built on to the sides of the walls, with the letters R and E, meeting at the corners of two walls. I eventually got to this logo, which is based on the perspective of the letters on the building.

Time For An Update I Think....

Just realised today that I have not been on my blog in soo long, so I thought I would let you know what I've been up to, if you're still there?! So next couple of posts will just be a mix of some of the stuff I've been working on this term...

This is one of the one day briefs we've had this term, had to make statistics look interesting... My design detailed the amount of trees cut down in certain countries over 3 years, a very interesting topic indeed... I actually think each little "forest" might look nice as little Christmas cards (I'm getting a little excited already!).

This was a poster from a one day project me n joe did ages ago, where we had to do a poster of a colour but in another colour. We got black but in pink. Its full of horrible things and people sorry.

Composer posters, finally....

so, i just found these photos i took a while ago of these composer posters which wouldn't upload as files for some reason. photos are really awful oops.

this poster was for teenagers, was an interactive poster based on stylized russian dolls (rachmaninoff is from the town where these were originally made) and the coloured shapes could be popped out, and then folded to create a set of dolls, with info on them to act as personal leaflets. a new design would appear when the front layer was removed. can't find the images of the dolls though!

this poster was based around Rachmaninoff's state of mind, where he was often depressed and hated a lot of his work.
